As a certified provider by SkillsFuture's TPGateway, Veloci Academy collaborates with the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) to offer a full range of training courses with the ultimate goals of imparting trainees/participants with relevant knowledge, skills and/or professional recognition in the global coffee industry.

Upon completion of a list of training courses, students will receive SCA certificates in the following education programs:

  •  Coffee Skills Program,
  • Coffee Sustainability Program
  • Coffee Technicians Program.


These programs are built on decades of knowledge, research, and real-world experience designed to help learners create a successful career in the coffee industry.

1. The Coffee Skills Program

The Coffee Skills Program consists of five full modules and one stand-alone, introductory course. The 5 modules are Barista Skills, Brewing, Green Coffee, Roasting and Sensory Skills. Each module consists of three progressive courses titled Foundation, Intermediate and Professional. Learners choose which modules and courses are most appropriate for their educational needs.

  • Introduction To Coffee: Learners are introduced to specialty coffee and the broad topics that could be explored through the other the modules. This is typically a 4-6 hour course and does not include a practical exam.
  • Foundation courses are typically equivalent to a 1-2 days course.
  • Intermediate courses are typically equivalent to a 2-3 day course.
  • Professional courses are typically equivalent to 3-4 day courses. These courses can also be held over several meeting periods depending on the design of the AST’s lesson plan and agreement with learners.

a. Barista Skills Module

Barista Skills teaches the essentials practical skills needed behind the espresso bar such as how to set your grinder, make espresso, foam and texture milk for cappuccinos and create latte art as well as an exploration of health and safety issues, customer service protocols and basic business practices. Barista Skills can be studied at three different levels within the SCA Coffee Skills Program: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced

i) Barista Skills Foundation course
  • Gain an introductory understanding of coffee and its origins
  • Foundational skills required to setup a coffee bean grinder and make espressos using a semi-automatic Espresso machine
  • Foam and texture milk and latte art techniques as per SCA quality standards
  • Learn basic Health & Safety practices and Customer Service
  • Learn how to operate a semi-automatic Espresso machine and perform basic cleaning after usage

Practical learning objectives and activities prepare the learner to conduct key foundational tasks of a barista. This course is a pre-requisite for the Barista Skills Intermediate and Advance Courses A written exam tests theoretical knowledge based on Foundation course learning objectives.

ii) Barista Skills Intermediate course
  • Builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Foundation course
  • Ideal for experienced Baristas who wants to explore how to improve coffee quality and prepare for more complex job functions in the barista profession
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the coffee itself
  • Workflow management and efficiency, sensory aspects, milk handling and latte art
  • Covers key concepts regarding health and safety, customer service and basic business practices

Required Prerequisites: Completed Barista Skills Foundation Course
Course Delivery: In-person – 14 hours

Exams | Passing Scores Written exam | 70% Practical exam | Pass each section of exam

iii) Barista Skills Professional course
  • Designed to test advanced skills and detailed knowledge
  • Learn and acquire a sophisticated tasting methodology
  • Gain a detailed understanding of drink ingredients and techniques
  • Understand how to manage the skills of others
  • Demonstrate an understanding of developing brew recipes
  • Systematic method of structuring beverage menus
  • Consistently apply the highest standard of latte art

b. Coffee Brewing Module

i) Brewing Foundation Course
  • Learn fundamental coffee brewing methods and their proper execution.
  • Use brewing equipment properly

ii) Brewing Intermediate Course
  • Develops deeper understanding of brewing variables and their effects on coffee quality.

iii) Brewing Professional Course
  • Masters advanced brewing science and quality control for optimum results.

This module teaches green coffee evaluation and trading. Key learnings include:
